Turning to the skies above, you at first dismiss the silhouettes in the magenta heavens as seagulls straying from the Cathagi Bay. But the shape for such a bird is all wrong. It takes some squinting and shielding your eyes against the setting sun but soon enough you realise that these are in fact Legatus Griffinhawks, kin to your own vaunted avian messenger Courageous Sky!
You had heard that there were no wild Griffinhawks to be found in the southern lands, all domesticated and used as imperial messengers since the height of the Cathagi Empire. These griffinhawks, and there must be half-a-dozen of them, do not seem to be flitting purposely about the City carrying one message of another. No, rather they seem to be floating leisurely, riding the warm winds that lift them up high above the Crescent Palace some distance away. The sky around the Crescent Palace is noticeably absent any competing birdlife, and indeed the wider city today, and even the incessant seagulls from the bay seem to have decided to nest up early today. The presence of numerous Griffinhawks in the sky does not seem to be cause for alarm for anyone, but you’d have noticed before if this was a daily occurrence.
The Long Walk commences at first light tomorrow, but there is enough sunshine left in this day to consider what to do with this opportunity.
====================================
>You have Orin bring Courageous Sky out to the gardens with you, but still caged, where he can hear and react to the cries of these Cathagi Griffinhawks. If the two groups seem amicable, you see no harm in releasing Courageous Sky to stretch his wings. If they react with hostility or otherwise distress Sky, you’ll simply have Orin bring him back inside. [Haughty]
>You’ll have Orin bring Courageous Sky out and release him to share the sky. Even if these tamed cousins of his are somewhat territorial, you cannot keep your Griffinhawk caged during your entire stay here. He has to be let out sooner or later and, given all he has been through thus far, keeping him confined any longer would be torture for a creature of the Wild. Besides, like Mikail, he might find new friends. [Hearty]
> Regrettable, but Courageous Sky must stay caged and stowed away for now. You don’t yet know whether these Cathagi-strain hawks are hostile to outsiders, or whether they might even attack Sky in his cage if brought up. The last thing you want on the eve of the Long Walk is finding yourself helm-in-hand explaining to the Chapter Master why a melee between Griffinhawks broke out on church grounds. [Idealist]
