> As an outgoing and adventurous sort yourself, you find the Captain Alfonso Verdicci to be an intriguing individual. While it’s hard to tell if you’ve genuinely befriended the man, he seems as interested in your exploits on the continent as you are in his adventures on the seas. [Hearty]
“Ah, L’Orso Tempesta. Must you be so hard on that poor boy?” Captain Alfonso Verdicci frowns admonishingly, but the exaggerated pout of his lips betrays the joke in his tone. “I’ve rarely seen masters treat their servants so ill.”
“He’s a squire, not a manservant.” You unclasp your gauntlets, setting the cold bowl of broth to one side. “An apprentice, of sorts.”
“Aha.” Captain Verdicci nods knowingly. “This was a prova then, a test of sorts? Did he pass?”
“You know…” You look back over to your squire on the foredeck, pausing from gulping down water to wince as Sister Ignatius lifts his bare arm to inspect an especially impressive welt. “I could be inclined to say he did.”
The two of you discuss at length the voyage, a topic that’s been covered more than once in between you regaling him with tales of battle on the continent and him recounting his close calls with weather and pirates alike. The whole voyage was supposed to take two months, including the round trip stopping at Langland, now you’ll be lucky to disembark in Cathagi before three. Still winds on the stretch between set you back by a few weeks, and now a further week the Coy Siren has remained anchored at the port of Capara. Captain Verdicci swore they had promised a berth, yet here you still remain.
And now you are fast approaching autumn. A fair time for farmers at harvest, less so for sailors at sea. Nothing compared how rough it can get on seas in winter, according to the Coy Siren’s captain Alfonso Verdicci. But he too seems does seem , but you think you can tell that he too is frustrated by the slow progress and this latest delay. Or at least he did until today, he informs you that Capara has at last secured them a spot to dock and entry into the harbour to resupply.
