An interesting mechanic from Apex Legends which you could adapt for ttrpgs is the EVO Shield. Basically as I mentioned, the entire game is set up for combat (no PUBG hiding). The shield begins at two slots and automatically self-upgrades to 3,4,5 slots only if you deal out more damage, it is an aggressive positive feedback momentum mechanic. If you never fight, you can never tank.
So in rpg dice terms it would be like an AC that improves only with more successful damaging attacks. All players are equipped with this, so you have to fight in order to stand a chance against survivors in a damage race or when trading shots etc. Maybe this mechanic from Apex is something that can be adapted to encourage battles in more combat-driven dice scenarios.
