>>5255258The Spartans find an area where the floor is solid, and where they can dig underground. They dig up a vast undeground complex with rectangular rooms. The prisoners are dropped in pits with a high ceiling. This system makes the prison difficult to escape, without having to develop well-engineered doors. The underground prison is made of several rectangular rooms.
Engineer Aristonymos keeps working on the development of the crossbow, with the help of his assistants. He builds a complex clockwork machine, which rotates and fires arrows in every directions. Three of his assistants are killed by the machine, which then explodes. The project is declared a failure.
A troop of Spartan veterans are sent to the sewers to clean up a goblin nest. They easily defeat them, with their superior weapons. Five of the goblins kneel down and pledge allegiance to the human general; the others are beaten, and dragged to the underground prison.

The African Americans explore the art gallery for materials. They collect a total of 100 paintings, from which they collect 100 wooden frames and 100 canvases. One of the painting was hiding the entrance to a small cavern. When they enter, they are attacked by their natural enemies, the arcane spirit bats. After a fierce battle, they explore the cavern, and find the portrait of the Angarax, an alien entity covered with blood. They also find a small chest filled with jewels. The high priestess analyzes them and determines that they are enchanted.
When they walk back toward the exit, they find that it has been blocked with boulders. Poisonous smoke is slowly entering the cavern -- clearly, an assassination attempt. The high-pitched laughter of a hyena is heard on the other side. Fortunately, the high priestess uses the Staff of Gaia to purify the air and save her comrades, and no one dies.
Within the span of a year, the insectoid scientist Qualeek Jitterbug develops stone and iron equipment copied and improved from the Spartans. The technology is as developed as the weaponry of pre-colonial Africa, and includes the glagwa, a bell shaped shield made from iron sheets; the rungu, a stone throwing club; the manbele, a hybrid knife-axe; and the lion kpinga, a manbele developed specially to hunt lions.
