As you explain the day's events, Squid begins taking notes with distinct interest. She asks for plenty of details about the inside of the Hospital, or the arrangement of their wires, all of which you're unable to answer. She perks up once you start describing the encounter in the operating theatre.
"Did you get any scans of those minion Digimon you mentioned?"
"No. Vademon put up some kind of interference veil, I couldn't tag them with my goggles before Astamon deleted them all. Here-"
You offer up Datamon and Pulsemon's scan, for her to build up her Digimon repository with. Then you move on to the part where you freed Cutemon from their grasp.
"Oh! I was wondering why all those wires were hanging out of him. You said they were harvesting his healing powers?"
"Yeah. All I've put together is that they were trying to add its functions to Vademon's gun, by draining the data straight from his Digicore. Is that something you can do-?"
"I would never do that." She says, suddenly going stiff. Her gaze flickers past your face, lingering on your eyes for just a couple of seconds.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean that as an accusation. I just meant, y'know, in general. Is that something doable at all?"
She calms down a bit once you reassure her, but still doesn't sound too happy to be discussing the topic.
"It is. But no Cracker I know of is good enough to do it without hurting Digimon. I've read some past records- you know how there are plenty of Cyborg Digimon?"
You nod, unsure of where she's going.
"People can make them that way. There have been cases where a Digimon gets modified directly into its next stage due to data that forms implants and weapons. And a lot of the time, it hurts them, because their cores are being messed with. It's short-lived. They're powerful, but end up collapsing into an unstable mess. Like Raremon."
"That's bad." You agree. "And Cutemon was in danger of that?"
"Yeah, he was. Those two Digimon were digging really deep into his Digicore. I looked at the apparatus hooked up to his insides. Best guess from the wires you left in him? They were trying to just copy it at first, but gave up on that. I saw preparations to slice out the exact portions responsible for expressing that code."
"Which would be lethal."
"Without a doubt. Maybe they'd try putting it into the gun after."
That Vademon was a narcissistic, power-hungry psycho. You're glad that he's being left to the mercy of the City Digimon. You would have liked to absorb his data for Astamon, but with his strength, you're sure you'll find another Digimon to defeat in the future.
