>>5718281I would change the archetype from Ferryman to Signalman depending on whether you visited The Dockyard or The Railway near the Ironworks. The Signalman figure is inspired by the haunted worker in the Charles Dickens ghost story (would also strongly lock you into the history / background of wife killed in railway accident, hence seance / bargain with Odalisque to resurrect / meet with wife again etc). Had not fully decided on the portrait, in some versions I just had a normal dock worker maritime type person, but in others he looks like this - depending on how much magic you encountered or wielded.
The idea of the Ferryman is inspired by the ending of the Johnny Depp Jack The Ripper / Inspector Abberline From Hell film, where he places coins over the eyes of the dead. This was also a link to the secret location that explained the nature of the pentacle coins (currency in the City) and Temple Exchange / St Pauls Cathedral analogous location etc. You may have noticed a letter addressed to Hugo in the Dead Land - that is the same Hugo as the financier, Hugo Bosanquet. His secret is that he deserted during the war for profiteering instead. I had not fully planned it out, but his plotline also involves the sale of the Wentworth Ironworks factory because of the industrial unrest / work stoppage, exploiting Isambard / Beatrice's father and his mismanagement. Uncovering Hugo's secret was a means to prevent some of that happening.
