...What you find strange though, is the specific condition. Protein Collapse? You've heard of that before, actually. At your school. Strangely, you believe it's a condition that only effects arthropods and insects, not mammalians. Studying biology is one of the many subjects you study at your school; along with nuclear physics and capitalist economic theory; common subjects for children your age.
Crustaceans shed their shells to become larger in a process called molting. However, their rapid metabolism of old biomatter can lead to a syndrome where their proteins collapse and unravel themselves. When this happens, the organism will be unable to molt that year, and will simply choose to not grow any larger instead.
That specific passage is one you remember. Doesn't that mean... it's survivable? You're quite confused, the Hegemonic broadcast mentioned it as having a 100% mortality rate. Perhaps because it's not a natural condition for them, or perhaps because of their lack of biodiversity, they just simply don't know any better? While a Jaxtian is obviously not a Crustacean; you find it strange that they seem to be having such an issue with the collapse. Maybe they've simply never studied creatures who have it as a natural part of their life cycle? Or more likely they probably have and simply never found a solution to it, or this is considered a “good enough” way to end the average Jaxtian's life and their dystopian government doesn't want to spend more money to try and fix it. But that's not a good enough answer for you.
You'd very much like to help the Jaxtians cure the protein collapse. However, you aren't really sure how.
With how the Scout troop has been going, rather boring and uneventful after the thrill of Summer vacation starting has worn off, you figure this would be a great project for your summer vacation. As of right now, you figure you'll need to research protein collapse, find a sample creature that can survive it and then somehow transmit that information to the Hegemony from your own planet. Which is easier said then done!
What should you do first?
>Recruit your friends to help you in your project
>Study up on the Protein Collapse at your school
>Gather up some invertebrates to find example organisms
>Work on setting up a transmitter that can send signals into space
