To survive and make your way back to the chapel, you will need quick legs to carry you, and faith in the Emperor to guide you. But foremost, you must have the skill of subterfuge so that you may remain unseen on the path. It is both lucky, and unfortunate, that you have this skill in abundance. Had you not been so well versed in the art of sneaking away from chores, and had you not been so rebellious, perhaps you would not have found yourself so far from the chapel in the first place. Many nights you would be caught walking among shadows, and many nights would you repent beneath the stinging lash of mother superior. Perhaps if you survive here today, you will finally see the wisdom in the severity of her teachings.
You slowly crawl forth from your place of perceived security, and drag yourself along the paved streets. They are ruined now, a large crack snakes along the ground shattering what was once pristine. You gather the courage to get to your feet and both skulk, and sprint, in equal parts up the streets ever towards the chapel. The Great bells continue to chime in the distance, calling you home. As a pod whizzes over your head, and crashes into the side of a house, you jump for cover next to a corpse.
You imitate his stillness and blend.
From out of the pod, the alien emerges. Long and crystalline it rises above the carnage, wider than the strongest man and more than a head taller. A monolithic, hedonistic, caricature of a man. It eagerly searches for prey. Calling upon your training, you refuse to let fear control you. Instead you remain still as the dead, you remain in wait. Others are not as apt, a villager bursts forth from her hiding place and makes a desperate run towards the chapel. You already know she will not make it, and internalize a prayer for her. The alien is quick to follow after his target, his hard exterior opens and it lets out a shrill scream towards the women. Louder and sharper it gets until there is no sound at all, apart from the women's bones breaking and her blood exploding out her orifices. The alien kills with its voice.
Having finished off the women, it strides towards the chapel. It too is called forth by the ringing of the bells.
