「I'll ask.」And ask you do.
"Hunting?" You nod. Ryou sighs. "Would give you the week if I could, but it's gonna be busy. Probably stay that way til' the off-season unfortunately - I'd like to go on an outing myself." The old man hems and haws for a moment before saying anything else.
"Tell you what, you can take a couple of days. Newsday through Threesday morning - two and a half days. I'll need you back in the afternoon though." You bow slightly in thanks.「Much appreciated sir.」He waves the thanks off. "Don't worry about it. Although if you down anything good, I certainly wouldn't be against a cut..."
You stand up straight and let out a laugh.「If I get something I'll leave a piece for you.」
The next week starts and you head out alongside Huo Mi. The two of you plan to make a wide oval around the nearby forest over the next few days, coming back in the morning a few days later. Then Huo Mi will head out again after restocking on a couple of things and you'll head back to work. A rough plan, but all that's really needed.
On the first day you start making distance from the village while keeping an eye out for traces of animals. You're not particularly good at that so it's left mainly up to Huo Mi. Thankfully she does manage to find a couple of things. A plump boar, digging between a tree's roots, and a wild chicken, stumbling about. You take the shot on the boar, landing it without too much trouble. Huo Mi shoots the chicken herself - killing it without ruining the meat is apparently more difficult and she doesn't quite trust you with it. You eat well that night, resting at one of her camps.
The next day you continue on a winding route that gradually heads away from the village. In between picking plants and produce Huo Mi manages to land a pheasant. On your end you manage to get a rabbit, although you miss the first shot and only graze with the second. That means you have to follow it for quite a while as it bleeds out, and then finish it off with a knife. A bit tiresome for the meager reward.
From there you start heading back, a day and a half left in your hunt. You land big prey again, spotting a deer when you get close to the village. With everything else that would make you a bit overloaded but, uh, as always Huo Mi can carry an impressively large amount. You manage to make it back without much time to spare - perhaps an hour before you need to be back at work. You bid Huo Mi farewell and head back towards your squad's base, agreeing to work out the split on the meat later.
