Oakville Town, that was where my journey was taking me today, the place of fading tradition.
That place was inhabited by Mister Saturday, one of the last Demons known to Hainei, and the strongest of their kind. He'd only survived as long as he has by taking advantage of humans in this area whilst masquerading as a human among them. He claimed to me that he isn't out for masses of souls.... something I'd like to dismiss as a bold lie. Demons foster them and take as many as they can. If hiding behind his sense of fairness was his method for harming others and forging contracts of ill-gain with humans, then he needed to pay. He deserved to pay. I was going to make it so.
But I knew that he knew my face, as we'd already met before. I couldn't come to the town as an Immortal, even if there were Immortals there. Saturday fears the celestial presence that melts his being. That one touch, which would be all I need. There's no doubt he has lengths he'll go to in order to avoid his demise, to continue his life of four thousand years of vanity. So, I was going, but not as an Immortal. I wore a disguise. I changed the image that mortals perceived me as, to become more humanlike, just as my enemy does. There was no horn on my head, nor claws or fur of jade. I was just a woman, wearing a sweater and skirt.
'Attention passengers, train is arriving at destination now. Oakville Town. Temperature is eleven degrees celsius, with a hi of twenty and lo of seven. Wind, two miles per hour. Precipitation chances low. Thank you for taking state provided railways.'
I stepped off the train into the town. I waded my way past the crowd shuffling off to stand near one of the light poles. The town was going about its day.
All I had to do was find Mister Saturday now. And then kill him with a touch...
[JOCO] "Looking good, Muna!"
[MAJORDOMO] "Yeah, I gotta say we look better than I was expected. So, what now?"
Last time I ran into the Demon on the streets. Perhaps he's out swindling again...
[MAJORDOMO] "Right. Just find him, walk up, poke, BOOM! Done. Easy does it."
>Take a stroll in the streets. I'm bound to run into Saturday.
>Maybe I can draw him out by staging an act... He comes after those down on their luck.
>Perhaps it isn't wise to strike right away. I wonder just how known Saturday is around here.
>Ask the Woldorian Mythics in town what they've heard of Demons.
>Check the local papers and see what they have to say.
