You and Flint nodded in approval, finding that entirely acceptable. Sharing a glance with your oldest pal, you realized that he had somewhat warmed up to the idea of taking this guy on. You didn’t think they’d get along, really, but they could at least work together if the situation called for it.
“Well, I think this has been an enlightening conversation.” you said, rising from your seat. Flint did the same. “How about we set up another meeting so that you can come check out our alternative energy source? I’m still not too comfortable with the whole teenager thing.”
To your surprise, the Inventor wasn’t terribly offended by your admission. “I appreciate your genuine honesty in the matter. Getting a chance to examine this ‘energy source’ you speak of will be enlightening in its own way, and at the very least, it’ll give me another chance to change your mind about the validity of my research.”
You almost walked over to shake his hand, before realizing that he was a hologram and that your hand would just pass right through. After saying your goodbyes, the truck’s hatch opened once more, allowing you and Flint to leave so that you could return to your own vehicle.
This “Thomas Edison” character was an admittedly interesting candidate, but you didn’t want to rush the process of vetting him. That sort of thing could lead to disaster further down the road if you weren’t careful. Especially if you were the one who funded his research. The last thing you wanted was to be an accessory to a mad science experiment.

As you were on your way home, your work phone buzzed violently, and you quickly removed it from your pocket so that you could check it. The number wasn’t saved in your contacts list, which made you frown, but you still answered it anyway. It was a bad habit formed from your newfound profession that led you to having more than a few uncomfortable and annoying conversations with scammers and robots.
“Hello?”
“Is this the Huntsman?” said a deep voice on the other end of the line.
“Who wants to know?”
“Michael Morbius suggested that speaking with you might be worth my while.” the man shot back. “And I suppose my curiosity got the better of me.”
Your eyes went wide, and you turned to Flint while covering the receiver with one hand. “Blade’s on the phone!” you whispered excitedly.
Flint’s expression conveyed his thoughts better than words could.
And you were certain that he was thinking: “Well, damn…”
You cleared your throat and returned to the call, hoping that the vampire hunter hadn’t heard that.
“Well, you heard right.” you replied, wishing you’d thought of a better comeback.
“Then let’s hear it.” he urged. “Despite what they call me, I don’t have all day.”
