“After hiding the Sphere, I decided to hide on a planet that was easy to get lost in. Your planet was on the list of many hubworlds that fit such a description, so I decided to travel there first. However, I was not expecting to receive such a hostile reception.”
“What happened?” Richard asked.
“My ship was shot down by your world’s government, and I was forced to make an emergency landing here. The crash nearly took my life, and left me rather defenseless when your people came to extract me from the crash-site.” she said, turning to stare directly at Richard. “And that is when I first met you.”
Richard frowned, and pointed at himself questioningly. Va Nee nodded.
“My memories of the event are…hazy, but I do remember you being with an older human. He wore an eyepatch, I believe.”
Richard’s eyes narrowed, before becoming as wide as dinner plates. He whispered two words. Two words that you never expected to hear in this conversation. No, it was…a name.
“Nick Fury…”
Va Nee shrugged. It was apparently a universal gesture. “I do not know his name. That was the first, and last time I had ever seen him. But your presence there certainly influenced my decision to assume Victoria’s identity.” she said. “You see, my father imparted the gift of teleportation, flight, and slight memory manipulation to me when I was young. But my brief contact with the ISO-Sphere only served to develop those abilities even further. It granted me the ability to teleport to a certain point in your world’s timeline, causing a ripple effect powerful enough to change the entire history of your planet around my presence. And when I directed it at Richard-”
“We suddenly had a sister…” you said unintentionally, a haunted look on your face.
Va Nee paused to stare at you, before nodding slowly. “That is correct. I am technically…a fugitive here. An unwanted stranger hiding on your planet. At first, I was terrified by the prospect of being stranded here, as my presence would inevitably attract the attention of the Grandmaster.” she explained, a guilty expression permeating her azure features. “However, if my time here has taught me anything, it is that Earth’s ‘heroes’ are more than a match for some of the galaxy’s greatest threats. Time and time again, you humans have proven yourselves worthy champions.”
That was…true. The world’s governments and superhero teams have slapped down more than a few world domination plots by now.
“The Grandmaster will come for me one day.” Va Nee continued. “I do not know when, but he will come. And when he does, Earth’s heroes will have no choice but to fight.”
