>>5375111Riding on the high of your win, there’s no way you’re going to stop where you’re at. If anything, you should be hurrying right to your next destination.
Nearly crashing into the control panel that’d been overrun with Eddie’s code (along with the rest of your team that you stayed behind to wait for), Bernard doesn’t hesitate to grab hold of you himself, the rushing of goons almost palpable from behind you.
Much to the goons’ dismay, they don’t get their shot at revenge, the tightly-packed control panel room being filled with the blinding light of a teleport.
The soft, blue glow and sound of footsteps disappears, only to be replaced by a low, mechanical whirring, and, out of the thick of danger for the moment, you let out a breath you didn’t know you’d been holding.
Still, you can’t help but be hit with a sense of deja-vu, given that you’ve been right in this very spot with Bernard the first time you’d taken a jaunt within FutureLabs’ facilities. Turning your head in the direction of the ever-present whirring, you find several, large fans lining the wall that, as a result, have the air around this place smelling fresher, less reminiscent of cleaning chemicals.
In the opposite direction, meanwhile, is a deep, octagonal chasm, the only thing preventing you from plunging into its depths being a rail that barely reaches above your waist. Even with the passage of time, there’s nothing that’s remotely changed, as if this whole place were trapped in stasis.
“So this is it?” Valjean’s voice is scarcely heard above the fans. While his tone betrays absolutely nothing, his grey eyes are cold and contemptuous as they gaze down into the pit below– a pit that only very few mutants have ever trespassed and have lived to tell the tale, you and Bernard included.
Though Boleski’s face is a stone, his wings are bristled, daring something or someone to come at him. “Thees place… hate it.” He says simply, words caked in his thick accent.
