For some reason I also thought Ministry did the slightly cringe but catchy soundtrack for dmc (the Western Ninja Theory devil may cry one) except I just looked it up and that was Combichrist instead.
The best instance of rock music that I can remember synchronising to gameplay was two sections of Max Payne 3. Yes there are annoying unskippable cutscenes, but once you get into the police station shootout and also the culminating airport battle the music is SO GOOD. I think the no lyrics track is named "Combat Drugs" by the band Health.

I actually mostly listen to classical music lol (yes I am like that) and I only really ever become aware of contemporary music from films, advertisements and videogames.
A really good soundtrack I remember which people never seem to mention that much is Prince Of Persia (2008) the cellshaded one / rip-off of Shadow Of The Colossus where you can never die because you get saved by a magical girl.
The soundtrack is by Inon Zur, you may know him as Fallout 4 intro music man or perhaps Icewind Dale music man etc.
This Prince Of Persia soundtrack is SO GOOD I think the vaguely Arabian exotic 1001 nights style music can work for any fantasy setting.
The harp arpeggios outro credits theme is so incredible it is really evocative and romantic. There are also unique area themes for all the ethereal magic wall-running, they are all very well orchestrated and overbrimming with lyricism
Here is the main intro
