I think that Anon has some loose parallels to Joe Yabuki, from Ashita no Joe. They are both orphans, insofar as they lack parental figures. They are both numb/hedonistic, and they are both drifters. While Anon doesn’t actually drift, I think his hobby of urban exploration could be interpreted as an expression of his desire to do so, with the only thing keeping him held back is his love for his sister. Because of this, I think some of the events and characters in this quest can be mapped onto characters and events in AnJ.
AnJ begins with Joe wandering into San’ya, and the quest begins with Anon wandering out of his house. Joe meets Danpei while getting into a fight with some yakuza, and Anon meets Houndour while getting into a fight with Houndour. Joe meets Sachi, and Anon has his first proper interaction with his sister. Joe agrees to let Danpei train him, and Anon becomes friendly with Houndour. Joe makes some money by shaking down the local yakuza, and Sachi is involved. Anon makes some money by participating in what is functionally a shakedown of some yakuza on behalf of some other gangsters, and the native girl is involved. Joe scams Yoko out of 100 million yen and hides it in an abandoned building, and Anon hides some of the money from the prior action in an abandoned building. Joe gets sent to a juvenile correctional facility, and Anon goes to the remedial class. While at the facility, Joe meets Rikiishi during his first escape attempt, and Anon meets Hiiro for his first battle. If Anon ends up having to battle a trainer with a proper license to get his own, then it would resemble the situation between Joe and Wolf Kanagushi. I may be reaching, but I’ve got the idea in my head and now I can’t get it out.
