“You really should've led with this.” you said, reaching up to check if your second set of ears were still there. Thankfully, they weren't.
“How long is this supposed to last?”
“Until someone dispels it, or, until you decide to draw upon your power.” Ami explained, leaving the mirror there for you to check your eyes. “After that, it will need to be reapplied.”
You stared up past the mirror to glare at her…but you couldn't put your heart into it.
“Even though this is your fault…thanks for changing me back.” you said, your gaze softening somewhat.
“Of course. All you had to do was ask, dear.” Ami Han replied, giving you an approving nod as she spun the Portal Projector in one hand.
Your eyes followed it, but it was gone after a few more seconds of spinning. You decided not to give in and ask her to give it back. Instead, you went into the kitchen and started rooting through the cabinets.
“So, what're your plans for me? Everyone else in my family has had one, and I figure you count, based on all the fur I grew.”
Ami Han froze, clearly caught off guard by your lax attitude. Her face fell at almost the same time her ears drooped. It was immensely satisfying to see her lose her composure.
Once she regained it, though, she smiled eagerly and steepled her fingers.
“Heh~? Family, am I? I suppose you can think of me as the meddlesome auntie you never had.”
More like the meddlesome auntie you never wanted.
“Is tea okay?” you asked, finally locating the cabinet where Ben stored his tea.
“Eh?”
Ami Han's mouth fell open slightly as she stared
“Tea. We've only got Lipton, though. That fine with you?” you said, using Mercy to grab a pair of cups and spoons.
Wasn't Ben super rich or something? How come he only bought the cheap stuff?
“Y-you're offering me hospitality? What good manners you have~.”
She clapped her hands together in what was meant to be a cutesy gesture, and you just pretended to roll your eyes whilst briefly glancing around the room to find your sword or the portal projector. They had to be around here somewhere.
When Ami Han casually strolled into the kitchen, you placed the cups down on the table, reached for the sugar and pretended that you had been looking for it all along. Mercy filled the kettle with water, and gingerly placed it on the stove, before quickly retreating from the household appliance. You were about to light a fire under it, when a trio of talismans flew over and attached themselves to the kettle.
You turned to see Ami Han with an arm extended and a self-satisfied look on her face.
“Heat talisman. Handy if you're ever out in the wilderness.”
“And…almost entirely useless when you have access to a working stove?” you offered.
Ami Han sucked her teeth and folded her arms over her chest.
“Oh? Then I suppose you like paying sky high gas prices.”
