Even knowing that I had secured a deal with NEGAI to protect the souls of the Psyops, there was still a nagging feeling I had. A desire not to lose them even still in the back of my head that compelled me to seek ends I could meet to prevent their passing, even going as far to let NEGAI himself know this when accepting his deal.
I traveled to Belkinsire today, and entered the Illuminati College, where I went and saw Eskart as he presided within his study. I told the wizard about what I'd done with NEGAI. To a large extent, he seemed pleased with the decision I'd made and told me it was the right one to make in lieu of Thandir and the Dark Lord. He asked me if that was all I'd come to say, and that was when I pitched my idea to him. I had envisioned a way to further protect the souls of the Psyops. I wanted to create a soul container that could catch them as they died, to give to my troops. I wanted to be able to keep their Spiritua alive in that manner, that even if they die, they would be able to look forward to tomorrow still. I wanted to give the Psyops the ability to keep on fighting, even through death.
Eskart heard my idea and close his eyes. I asked if he would help me, knowing all he does about magic.
[ESKART] "No. I would not."
I would be lying if I said I did not expect his answer.
[ESKART] "Muna, listen. What you seek to do here is tantamount to Necromancy. It is unnatural. I cannot approve of it. Listen, the art of keeping things that have died in persistence is inherently demonic. Necromancy deals with keeping the Spiritua of the deceased in a world it cannot and should not continue to exist in without its Materia counterpart. This is in defiance of Death itself and all our conceptions on it."
'But with all the technology we have, we could give them new bodies! They would be able to continue living within Materia, would they not?'
[ESKART] "And how different do you imagine a body of metal for a soul to possess is from a dead corpse for a soul to possess? There are far more intricacies to this than merely giving a soul a shell. When something dies, that life is supposed to have ended. The soul that persists after its death is not meant for this world anymore. They will soon forget themselves."
'Forget themselves? You mean... their memories will fade?'
[ESKART] "Yes. They will forget who and what they were. Why do you think it is that most of the spirits that serve the Khanate are as rabid and mindless as animals? They've long lost whatever lies their Spiritua strewn selves lived. You'd have to accept that, even in a body of metal over a body reanimated, any souls you'd seek to put through this idea of yours would eventually go insane. On top of that, as they are deceased, they will spread impurities. Kegare will fester, as it does for wherever the Khanate goes."
'But I am the Goddess of Mentality, Eskart... I could preserve their memories, surely..."
