I tried to hide, and made a run for it when I saw an opening…but as you can see, I did not make it far before suffering injury…”
“How did you manage to escape?” Cuthbert asks, his eyes narrowed in suspicion. “You’re a mage too, aren’t you? Your magic should have also been nulled. You’re telling me you managed to get away from a group of highly trained assassins?”
“I escaped because of Lord Tristain.” Nadia says, looking at you passionately. “The Sorcerer King himself must have willed for this to happen. I’m convinced more than ever that he wishes for me to complete my research. And he put you in my life as proof!”
>“...What exactly were you researching?”“The very essence of life itself!” Nadia answers. “The harvesting of an individual's quintessence, their very life force, and how to implant it in a different host to create new life. My progress has been stalled for ages…until I met you, my lord! Your vitality is simply...divine! I’ve never seen anything like it!”
>“That cut…” “Forgive my duplicity, Lord Tristain.” Nadia bows her head shamefully before you. “I had taken your blood on a mere whim. As a contender, I figured you must be strong. But I had no idea the secrets that your blood held! The creature that I’ve brought to life from your quintessence is amongst the most powerful I’ve ever seen. It slaughtered the Riahi in droves, allowing me to escape. Even now, I believe it may be battling against the assassins.”
>“You did WHAT?!” You recoil in horror. You grab Nadia’s cheeks, pulling them painfully. “Why is no one in this country NORMAL?”“I’m sorry, Lord Tristain!” Nadia whines through the pain. “But I’ve never been more convinced of anything in my life…you are a man worthy of adoration! Please, I beg of you, take the Keep back from the Riahi and help me save my research! I will follow you inside and show you how to save your friend! The Adjunct’s chamber is guarded by several mechanisms you do not understand!”
“So if we want to get Alvin back, we have to go inside that scary keep filled with deadly assassins.” May says. “And a…monster, that has the boss’s blood and who knows what else?”
“We could always just leave.” Cuthbert says. “Leave these damn mages to their own fate,”
“Alvin was our guide.” Adeline says. “He was also the one supplying us with food and water. A trip without him would leave us at the mercy of the desert.”
