>Take the fight on her terms.
The thought of pausing and disconnecting from the simulation passes through, before being dismissed.
No. You will fight on her terms. To just leave would be even worse than cheating.
A brief review of options to actually accomplish the task of victory is short.
Arresting momentum mid-air to retreat upwards would just allow her to leap up for an intercept, or follow on own thrusters, or send more actual warheads to track your signature in the sky. So instead you redirect with a burst to the side, trying to vanish into the sensor-blocking smoke clouds she so nicely provided.
The discharge of her EMP generator fries your redirection attempt halfway through, sending your subsystems haywire.
Reboot and recovery of flight controls does not happen in time, and three seconds later, the ground meets you with a (simulated) crash.
“Get up, Beta. Up! Delta’s coming!”
You Know, pilot. Obviously.
Power. Movement first. Then sensors. Then weapons. Then subsystems.
Reestablish control.
Rise to a knee, to your feet.
The red Frame bursts from the smoke. Sunburst is still offline for the critical seconds, so it is sacrificed in an inelegant block to save your leg from being grabbed by her outstretched hand. Grabbed, and crushed, that is.
The simulated weapon’s capacitors rendered into a sparking, useless hunk of weight on the left hand.
Your offhand lashes out in a swipe, trying to ward off the next wide slashes, but without the extra speed of the Yi accelerators, or the maneuverability of the thrusters, you are simply prey for her more specialized weapon and actually active subsystems.
Close Combat Dice, please.
(Everyone’s at Low-sync, Sophie is in sync for Link to the Future)
3 Attack, 3 Defense, x1, nothing from offline subsystems due to EMP effects

This is like 1/2 of the update because y'all opted to fight. Next one goes up first thing tomorrow, after the dice. Guess I'll throw combat mechanics post here, as a reminder.
