>>5355392Great was an understatement. You were atop a steep hill, covered in trees, across from another identical hill. Below you was an ill-maintained, dirt road. If you followed it up about a day or two’s way north, you’d likely find yourself in the capital of Siward. Both hills loomed high above the road, providing not just a vantage point to the road below, but also cover. For anyone coming from the south, they’d likely never expect or see anyone who was doing their best to hide in the brush.
“It’s as if the Goddess herself dropped these here for us.” Sebastian remarks, impressed.
“This close to Siward, I doubt this Echeverria character will be expecting an enemy presence. Doubly so with this cover.” Boleslav says.
“That’s not even taking into consideration the casualties he’ll suffer when our spears pierce him from above.” Nero chuckles. “Nice job, you damn circus freak.”
>“Excellent work, Caleb. In your estimation, approximately how long will it take for the enemy’s caravan to arrive?”The man puts one finger to his chin and stares up at the now rising sun. “They’re slow. All in all, they’re about 40 or so armed men, but they’re travelling with several large wagons that appear to be carrying…something. Could be loot, but I’m not sure. Some of the men kept cycling in and out of each wagon, carrying stuff inside. Not sure what, but it seemed a little strange. With all the delays, I’d wager we’ll see them in about 12 to 15 hours.”
“We should maybe try and avoid damaging the caravans too much.” Corrine suggests. “His Royal Pain in the Ass didn’t exactly say we couldn’t help ourselves to whatever was inside. And I’m curious as to just what they’d be lugging across the Alliance.”
“Agreed. The loot didn’t do anything wrong to deserve being burnt up.” Nero says.
Ava scoffs. “Likely nothing more than ill-begotten gains meant to bribe the Viscount. Burn it all I say.”
You listen to the suggestions of your captains while surveying the battlefield below you. You could go with your usual “Shock and Awe”. Bombarding the enemy below you with magic, punching a large enough hole in their defenses for your melee to swoop in and take care of whoever was left. An effective strategy and an almost guaranteed massacre, especially given the terrain. Doing so would likely destroy several, if not all of the caravans.
The road below was narrow in between the two hills. You and Damian could create a wall of fire at the front of the column, blocking them off. They’d be sitting ducks for your archers. Your fliers could skirmish and drop infantry below. You’d save the caravans, create chaos in the enemy ranks, and likely still have an upper hand on the ill-prepared guard. It was a slightly more dangerous plan though.
