“Um…” Clover tries to recite all the details she can remember about that day. “They didn’t have security badges, they had some black car in the parking lot they were trying to take me to, and they said something about not wanting to lose their jobs?”
Melissa starts slowly spinning her chair around again. “Okay, so clearly they were doing this for work. Sounds like they didn’t really want to, but probably someone higher up on the chain ordered them to do it? Really does sound like some kind of private security.”
Clover slams her hands on the detective’s desk. “Do you at least have access to any of the mall security cameras? This could be really important to figure out!”
“Eh?” Melissa frowns as her chair finishes up its second rotation. “I mean, we could try to break into the mall security room or something, I suppose. Would it really help us that much though? Did something happen yesterday that could’ve led to them targeting you or something?”
Clover freezes. Good wolves told the truth. Being a good pack-leader meant being honest with your packmates. And… mom always said lying was bad.

“I-I don’t know! But maybe we don’t need to look at the cameras after all!” Clover looks away, trying to hide her shaking as she sits back down. She couldn’t lose a packmate. Not again.
Melissa’s chair comes to a stop. “I see.”
Hurriedly trying to think about something else, the wolf-girl remembers her encounter with them earlier today. “I did run into the suits again, though. My… friend said that they were supposedly her rich friend’s security team, but I think they were just pretending-!”
Clover’s cellphone buzzes in her pocket. Both girls’ attentions are drawn by the faint wolf howls filling the air. Clover looks up at the clock. Yikes!! It was already 6 pm?!
