>Fighters: The bombers' escorts, their job is to lob missiles at corvette-sized targets or smaller and gtfo. Dogfighting is obsolete with missile tech, but guns, speed, and supermaneuvrability is still a must because you'll never know when you need them (for the same reasons why you carry a knife even if you have a gun). Following the F-22 Raptor, they'll be crammed to the gills with radar and sensors to give us an up close high resolution view of the battlefield to fill any gaps of the ship's scanners. They'll have just enough stealth capability to have the element of surprise while still prioritizing speed and power. Can be unmanned drones.>Bombers: The 'corvettes' QM mentioned. Following the B-2 bomber, armed with huge torpedoes powerful enough to cripple the largest ships. Will depend on their fighter escorts for self defense, but is still otherwise fitted with turrets and a few light missiles. Has similar stealth capability as the fighters. With this, and looking at our current needs and budget, I think we should build a destroyer first, a somewhat bigger 'corvette'. Small and light, but armed to the teeth. Built for speed and agility, just like the metal gear... but also meant for combat, and not just stealth. It'll be tougher and well-built. And I'm getting a boner at the thought of launching tungsten and nuclear-tipped rkkvs (the nuke is just there if won't have room to accelerate).
