Arcade shouted. And for a brief instant, Doom turned his dark glare onto the demented game developer.
“Doom. Does not. Take. Orders!”
With each word, Doom seemed to overpower Gwen a little more at a time. Even with his suit’s limited functionality, and without the use of his magic, he was able to push her back with sheer force of will.
Gwen strained under the weight of his strength, before she was eventually batted away so that Doom could recuperate. With the distance that he managed to create between himself and the shield, Doom gained some semblance of control over his magic again.
Lightning crackled on his fingertips, and he pointed a hand at Nathaniel, who was currently preparing another powerful blast from the suit’s core. But you knew that the kid wouldn’t make it in time.
Your body moved on reflex, and before you knew what you were doing, a web-bolt flew from your wrist and nailed Doom right in the eye. Well, the eye of his mask at least.
It wasn’t much, but it was enough to momentarily distract him long enough for Susan Storm to create a bubble of force around him. And when Doom unleashed his magical attack, the energy from it bounced right back and hit him at full force. Doom cried out in pain and outrage as he electrocuted himself.
When the light show ended, Doom fell to one knee, his clothing slightly blackened and smoldering from the attack. He glared hatefully at where he thought Sue was, and he raised a hand to retaliate.
Five, metal spikes flew from his fingertips, shredding the shimmering barrier as if it had never been there at all. Gwen jumped in front of deadly projectiles and deflected them with her golden shield, sending the disk back at Doom with a powerful throw.
He blocked it with his forearm, but that only left him open to be shot by Nathanial from above. Both N’Kalla and Sue bombarded him with force projectiles while his attention was split, and you considered getting in there as well. But all of a sudden, everyone backed off all at once.
In the blink of an eye, Van returned to the battlefield, teleporting Valeria and everyone else to a safe distance. It was then that you noticed Mister Fantastic standing above you, his elongated arms coiled around a thick metal pipe. With a show of effort, he brought it down on top of Doom, while The Thing threw large bits of metal at him, one after another. Neither of them stopped until Johnny was flying directly above him. And that’s when he finally got his chance to shine. Johnny Storm, the second Human Torch, dropped the hammer.
A spear of blinding light crashed down from the heavens like an almighty display of divine retribution. It was almost painful to look at, and if it wasn’t for his sister maintaining the forcefield around it, you had a feeling that it would’ve roasted you and everyone else on the spot.
