>>6112136>but I think the reason that it doesn't happen very often is because it either requires an extremely autistic level of attention to detail or existing autistic knowledge on specific time periods.Oh yeah for sure. Half of the battle is just convincing the readers of minutiae so they can get immersed. Having a quest about the Etruscans fighting against the Greek migrants and later the birth of Rome would take people out of it if you just called it "Italy". At the same time, the average person has no idea what the peoples of the region actually referred to it as, nor the intricacies of foreign naming convention in relation. The Greeks of the era might call it a permutation of Italy at the time, but the Etruscans (and their contemporaries living on the boot) would certainly not. Unfortunately a LOT of early and mid bronze age naming convention that is easily accessible comes from the Greek speaking peoples of the era.
Conversely, pretty much everything after the 1600s is going to be in either French, Spanish or English. And if you want stuff coming out of Asia all of your names are going to be Indian or Chinese. Depending on the era. The earlier the more likely to be in Indian. This sort of thing tends to happen when a dominant power emerges and decide to collectively tell everyone around them they are inferior and erase their entire culture off of the face of the Earth. If only things were as fervently preserved as they are nowadays. IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!
It's certainly a balancing act.

The "4th" reminded me of Baldwin. Bro needed to be nerfed into the ground to make it fair.
