You're still trying to wrap your head around Barnham's passing... Despite him being an apostle, you still felt some sort of comradery of the one who managed to rebel against his creators. Given how power hungry he was, you were expecting him to die off someday. Hell, you were afraid of having to do the deed yourself if the war didn't do him in considering he could suck Ganishka inside his mouth, but right now? A crucial ally was lost, and you did not even have the time to mourn his passing...
Regardless, you need to plan ahead. After getting to Elfhelm and seeing what you can do to upgrade your arsenal, and perhaps finding a new army of magicians and paladins to aid you in the apostle war, there will only be one lord remaining in Ilos to command it until the end of this fight, so in actuality, Barnham's demise seems awfully conveniente for Griffith's plan.
After instructing Kalki on what to do, he agrees to establish better relations with the Bakiraka Clan. Compared to Griffith's army, you haven't killed that many Kushans, so being with a leader of an emerging noble for their empire without crowns could elevate your status into a possible truce. Reinforcing your army seems hard given how hard you've been funding the artillery, but there is no such thing as underpreparing for an enemy who does not underestimate.
"Understood, Milord. We have heard news that Rickert of the Old Falcons has went to the new capital of Wyndham, now named Falconia, so perhaps his genius in weapon developing could also prove to be useful."
"What's that about Falconia?"
"Ah, right. I forgot you are not aware of what happened. You see, Wyndham was struck by a large storm when Ganishka transformed, and from under the rubble, somehow. Apparently it seems very similar to the old capital that came under during Gaiseric's reign."
What a Griffith thing to do, take other people's works and taking the credit for it...
Apparently, he has managed to combine his army of apostles with a heavy culture that encourages the joining of guilds to help the refugees who have survived the Kushan Invasion, even ripping off Barnham's idea of the coliseum given how he segregates the apostle from the men as they live in a separate part of town. But since they have the pontiff at their side, their religion is still very established, and he can brainwash them into thinking he is the messiah until well after Charlotte's marriage.
Who knew sending Luka and her friends to be moles on his government would have worked so well?
