You nodded. You hadn’t received any new transmissions over the stolen radio, so it made sense that they were wary of being caught in some sort of trap.
“Rintrah has been scrying for their location for a while now, and he thinks he may have picked up on something interesting.” Webb continued. “He and Nico believe that the teleporter is utilizing something known as the ‘Darkforce’.”
Cindy tilted her head in confusion.
“We don’t know much about it, but Rintrah seems convinced that it’s bad news.” Julia added. “You can talk with him about it later, but I’m guessing you’d much rather have a chat with the other guy.”
“We might as well get it out of the way.” you said, heading for the stairs. “Thanks for your help, guys. I’ll take things from here.”
Their eyes followed you as you headed upstairs, but no one actually moved. Good. They might’ve seen or heard something unpleasant if they actually decided to tag along.
As soon as you reached the top of the stairs, you were met by a full-figured woman wearing a form-fitting, white nurse uniform and a short, blue collared half-cape that wrapped around her arms and shoulders like a shawl. She had short, black hair that had been wrapped up in a neat little bun, and deep brown eyes.
Judging from her appearance, this must be the specialist that they called in to save the Chameleon’s miserable life. At the very least, running into her had interrupted your depressingly dark thought processes, which was actually kind of a relief.
“If you’re looking for my patient, he’ll be in the room to the right. We had to move him in order to accommodate his…specific needs.” she said carefully.
“Your right, or my right?” you asked.
She smiled slightly. “Your right.”
How thoughtful of her.
“Thanks.” you said, stepping aside to move past her. She…stepped in front of you again. You looked down at her. “Excuse me.”
“I would very much appreciate it if you didn’t undo all my hard work during your visit.” she warned. “Whatever your grievances, he’s no good to anyone dead.”
“He’s no good to anyone alive, either.” was what you’d wanted to say, but you simply nodded and stepped around her to continue on your way. You could feel her eyes on your back as you went, but eventually you heard her heels clacking against the stairs as she made her descent.
Standing before the door that contained the filthy rat that had tried to take out your family, you decided to go over the content of your interrogation in your head.
What will you say/do?
