Currently standing over your holographic display table, capable of projecting all kinds of interactive fictions, high-quality broadcasts, receiving messages with physical interpolation to the speaker, and of course games. The most common are strategic and tactical; ways to improve ones thinking that also act as practice for combat and leadership, and of course, just as fun entertainment. Your current obsession is with a Maze Sim. It's a game where both players have identical tactical units and information, but the comms' are also shared, meaning any order given to one of your soldiers is also heard by the opponents soldiers too. It becomes a game of sharp communication as well as trickery...
Your opponent? A Jaxtian in another solar system. Quantum computing means instant communication; you can't even imagine how unfun this would be if there was some kind of delay. As with all online interactions; you know his name, location, and Hegemonic rank. The idea of anonymous online communication is unthinkable to a Hegemonian; after all, you'd feel a lot better knowing you got beat by someone with actual tactical thinking then just some faceless person online...
You and him have a bit of a rivalry. You've managed to beat him a few times, though he usually seems to have an edge on you. You'd still rather play with him then some perfectly balanced AI opponent though, something about it feels more... earned that way.
”After I whoop you this match, I bet I'll get picked up by the network for a promotion into being a military commander. That's how good I'm gonna beat you.”
”Yeah right! I've been thinking about some new moves all day. You're gonna get creamed, kiddo.”
”...You know I'm older then you, right? Especially in terms of racial maturity rates...”
”It's just trashtalk. I don't mean it.”
”Good little farm cow. Don't want to trip any Anti-Social language filters now, would you?”
”Ok, now you're gonna get it.”
Because you socially stood up to a Jaxtian earlier today and took up a competitive sport, you're feeling belligerent and ready for this. You estimate you've got a good 45% chance to beat him on any given game.
