>>5797154>9, 3 for the goblins…At least, against a disoriented and disorganized adversary. But she was not your champion, not your defender. She was here with, of course, a singular purpose: the purpose for which you’d all intervened. She rushed to her kinfolk’s side, speaking quickly with him as she fumbled to free him from his chains. With the hooked end of her claw-blades, she fiddled with the manacles which bound him and—as you watched, freed him.She took the male Ashurati’s hands in hers, pressed her smooth forehead to his. They celebrated his liberation…
And then she looked around.
There were still seven goblins on their feet, versus the five of you, and only two or three were definitely dead or unconscious; another was standing up already. Your father was struggling to his own feet, cursing up a storm and fumbling for his dropped blade while Pearce protected him as best he could. Some goblins were gathering around you, but even as he ate with frightening rapaciousness, Muffins’ snake-headed tail hisses and snapped at them, holding them at bay.
You were trembling like a leaf—you couldn’t deny it. Worse than useless—a liability.
Nemenmo made eye contact with you, then. You saw the expression upon her face, even as her eyes made it so that you took a moment to read it accurately: fear, regret, shame, and determination. She took a deep breath, as her male counterpart did the same, and then….
>1 for reinforcements; a failure would have meant the goblins received some, a success would have meant you received some, but a critical fail means...…She and her fellow fey dove to the ground—into the ground, as if diving into water—and were gone. Their light vanished with them, plunging you and your human friends (and Muffins) into darkness. As your eyes adjusted, you stared at their absence for a time, wondering if they might return—hoping they would—but knowing, deep down, that they wouldn’t.
You and your friends were in a hostile goblin camp, your mission here accomplished… And yet now outnumbered and surroundeded, with Pearce and Rudolfo all but blind, and the goblins in their element.
What did you do?
