Which was true, but Guilliman still admonished them for it after the fact, hence their eternal regret and the 1st born regiments therafter.
So something's changed in this timeline to consider. Given they are in the same sector and proximity to Xana, and they had Technobility, I feel like perhaps the Federation had influence over them to braver acts.
