If and when it comes down to trial by combat, I suggest we do something along the lines of this:

Let him get in reasonably close to us, and when he does, bring forth the krakens tentacle from our stomach quickly and use the resulting propulsion that the tentacle has to deliver a powerful blow to our opponents gut, and attempt to follow it up by disarming him of his weapon. Attacking him with it and delivering blows with our fists until he is unconscious.
I think something along these lines could work.
