“You won’t have to worry about that.” Magnus let you go. From his pocket, he pulled the spectacles that had been broken the other day, and set then on your nose. “I should be going. Make a list of plans for when I get back, Sieben.”
“…Yeah. I will.” You turned over in bed, “Bye, girly hair. Be early for once.” And don’t screw any other bitches. Besides me.
You turned your head again to watch him go out the door- and bump into another person outside.
“Ah, excuse me,” he said to Magnus.
“No, I didn’t see you, my apologies.” Magnus said, “You must be from the Academy.”
“You must be her exotic lover, then? You’ve good taste in women. No, I’m just here to drop a few things off. We’ll catch up some other time.”
The voice already made it obvious, so you weren’t surprised when Van Halm stepped into your room with an attaché case.
“Hey,” you said, sitting up again.
“Hello, Sergeant,” Van Halm took a seat where Magnus had been. “So, how did it go? He must be impressively vigored, to put you in the hospital like this.”
“Hah.” You rolled your eyes. “It’s a long story.” You looked to the case he set by the chair. “What’s in the business box?”
Van Halm picked it up and put it on your lap, opened it. “Academy work,” he said, “They’ve given you a delay for health reasons, but they’re still expecting your thesis paper on maneuver coordination by September. There’s reading here too they want. New regulations and clearances.”
“Oi!” You cried, “I’m in convalescence, dickhead!”
“You didn’t suffer any wounds below the waist, did you, blushing maiden?” Van Halm said mischievously.
“I-” You bit back a sharp reprimand, “…Whatever. You getting along with Mathilda?”
“The Von Blum girl is still pestering me,” Van Halm shrugged, “It’s a shame. Usually when women can’t tear themselves away from me, it’s flattering. Truly I’m a cursed man.”
“Maybe you should feed her some milt, smartass.”
“Ah, but she might like that too much.” Van Halm wagged a finger, “Now, I don’t want to leave you here bored. Tell me about the wild, romantic adventures you had with your Netillian knight, Anya Nowicki…”
Well. At least being in an army meant you were never wanting for eye candy. You breathed a long sigh, and prepared to delay getting Academy work done for as long as you could...
...Huh. When did that steel ring get on your finger?
