>>5551625You’ve yet to see any signs of life from your quick glance over the city, but you can’t discount the possibility that some people may have managed to escape the chaos. Therefore, you don’t give the order to attack that was lingering in the back of your mind. Instead, you nod towards Nero to open the door, while simultaneously grasping onto your weapon should the worst occur. The Wyvern Knight grimaces as he grasps the door’s handle, and pulls it open. You’re greeted by a pitch-black darkness that your eyes struggle to pierce through, along with a certain smell that makes you regret your decision to not immediately light the inside on fire.
“Eugh, what is that smell-” Before Nero is able to finish, several figures emerge from the shadows. They’re visible in the sunlight for only a moment before three of them grasp onto Nero and pull him inside the room, shutting the door behind them. In that split second, you’re able to see that their visage has been grotesquely twisted, and their eyes are completely white.
>“Nero!” Your companions rush towards the door and attempt to open it, but they struggle to pry it loose. “Move out of the way!”You launch a fireball at the door, splintering it into pieces and exploding it inwards. Several of the fragments ignite, illuminating the dark room and allowing you a clear picture of the inside. The room, much like the rest of the city, is a blood-soaked mess that reeks of death. And in the middle of it, five people in mixed garb are doing their best to pull apart your screaming wyvern captain piece by piece.
“Get these bastards off me!” Nero shrieks.
Your Killing Spear plunges through the back of one of the assailant’s heads, while Shelley and Diana follow suit with similar killing strokes. The two assailants that remain turn and face you, confirming your fears. They’re just like the villagers you’d fought back at Remire Village. These people have been turned into bloodthirsty monsters, and there’s nothing anyone can do to turn them back. You’re attacked on your left side by what looks like an archer from the Ordelian guard. He attempts to grab your spear from your hands, but lacks the skill to do so in his current state. You twist your spear and kick his legs from under him. Before he can get back up, you cleave his head off with a well-placed swipe. Behind you, Shelley, Diana and Ava finish off the remaining assailants, while Lysithea stands at the doorway, horrified.
