Fel magic could never be used openly so it's use is limited to subtle utility, kinda like Nalice's trinket. So my thought is, learn any useful tricks from warlock magic and everything else just use normal magic.
Alric will never be a very powerful mage but that is not the purpose of studying this, it's more about becoming a jack of all trades master of one.
