Amidst all the drama, you decided that you didn’t like the turn that this meeting was taking. Specifically, you hated the fact that Cindy felt as if she were being pressured into a role that she didn’t want to fulfill.
So against your better judgment, you fired a webshot at the place where its lower jaw would be if it were still there. The room went deathly quiet, and all eyes fell on you. Cindy was quite literally shaking at this point, and you didn’t think it was from the cold.
“I’m on Team Free Will, destiny be damned. You don’t get an avatar by bullying them into it. More carrot, less stick.” you advised both Mr. Knight and his bird doll.
You turned to Cindy, who was still wide-eyed and breathing irregularly. “You don’t have to do anything that you don’t want to. No matter what you decide, I’ve got your back.” you reassured her.
Cindy gave you a nervous half smile and glanced at the bird-thing. She still seemed troubled by what had transpired.
“That is more or less what I was already building up to.” Mr. Knight nodded. “However, I suggest that you refrain from displaying such crude behavior before Khonshu in the future. He is not a patient being, you see.” he advised.
You grinned at him from under your mask. “What, you mean this?” you said, firing another webshot at his shoulder. Cindy practically jumped, and she was now shaking her head frantically in an effort to dissuade you.
Mr. Knight crossed one leg over the other and folded his hands in a polite manner, sitting up straight now. “Yes. That.” he said, sounding more amused than he should, considering the situation.
You looked at Cindy and patted her gently on the head. “Relax, Cindy. If you’re worried about me ruining the furniture or getting his suit dirty, it looks like somebody beat me to it.” you joked, framing your fingers to form a rectangular shape and bringing it up to your eyes. “In fact, I think I might’ve made him look a little better.”
THUMP!
What the fuck was that?
You looked around curiously, before turning around and seeing a pair of long, bandaged legs standing before you. You were staring at its shins. This thing must’ve been huge! Another idol maybe? But how’d it get behind you? You were fairly certain that it wasn’t here before. Was MK investing in animatronics?
You looked up, and up, and up, until you saw another giant bird skull, at least three times larger than the one that you’d been redecorating mere moments ago. It was wrapped in bandages and garbed in resplendent Egyptian regalia befitting that of a pharaoh. And then…it looked down at you. The thing didn’t have eyes, but you had the impression that it was gazing at you intently. He raised his massive staff, which appeared to be just as tall as he was!
Suddenly, the gentle moonlight that’d been filtering in through the window was turning a deep shade of crimson. Soon enough, the entire room was bathed in red.
