The void to Nothingness may have been contained by their efforts, becoming the Veil, that archway in the ministry, however in order to contain it Helga/Faith either sacrificed herself along with at least 1 other founder, Cocksucker or who he was before going mad after being trapped for Forever in the void, or was pulled in accidentally.

Cocksucker being Salazar also kinda makes sense in a couple of ways if for no other reason than he hates Faith enough to consider ripping her out of us when we were dying just so he could torture her and both his host happen to be purebloods. Mean while we are muggleborn and Helga was a strong proponent of muggleborns.
