Their travels continued further and further towards the mountains. Where once it was like a film upon the eastern horizon the Mountains had quickly become much larger. Now they were the jagged teeth that dug like fangs into any bit of sky that the sun would rise behind.
Lucian had heard of mountains, heard how large these mighty gods of earth were, yet he only now understands just what those tales meant. At one time it was said that giant titans who were like gods lived at the top of these mountains and would roll thunder upon their foes.
If these mountains were that large and that tall, Lucian could only imagine the Titans who lived upon them were like. That was of course ignoring the idea of the Dwarfs who lived underneath them and whose homes would encompass the entire length of these earth spikes.
The roads they were walking had, for reasons that Lucian could not fully understand, had actually increased in quality. The masonry was clearly not of human hands for there was perfection in every piece of it. If the words of Adok were to be trusted then these were likely made by the Dwarfs who lived in the Grey Mountains to encourage commerce and diplomacy.
The group made their way towards another village, this one near identical to the others when they were looking at it from the other side of the valley. Yet as they traveled forth some things were odd.
Glancing at the fields Lucian had noticed there to be no workers. There was no children or men working the fields or even flocks of sheep that he had seen a great many times in these hills. Instead what he saw was empty pastures and empty fields.
“No soul is here.” Tee-Nee-Tyny said even before they walked into the village. Lucian could only guess that the winds being carried in their direction had allowed the lizard to smell it, “Scent of blood and ruin is near. Old blood.”
“Do you sense any chaos in the winds?” Adok asked as they routed towards the village.
“The remains are too old.” The Lizardman said simply.
