>>5319541Apologies for the wait-- had errands to run, and you all know how it goes...“Nah, I think I’m good,” You tell Simon, once again denying his request to peek into your mind.
For a good, long moment, the young mutant is eerily silent, red eyes boring into you as if trying to unlock your stories with his mind.
“Okay,” He smiles genially, his face reverting back to a cheerful expression like the flip of a switch. “Bye, Kelpie!” And then he’s off, the button-eyed mutant following along with him.
One-by-one, the captives are spirited away from the warehouse, and it’s not long before they’re all gone.
Valjean, meanwhile, doesn’t seem to mind being left on his lonesome (and you know he won’t be going anywhere with all of Konigsburg out for his arrest). Though it seems like he’ll be missing Julia, you’re sure he’s glad to have the other mutant getting some fresh air for once.
As soon as you get home, you make a beeline for Matt’s room. His desk is far messier than it had been two days ago, a maze of wires and old computers all bound together, and the manner in which the screens pulsate with light, casting the ceiling aglow in blue, almost reminds you of a heartbeat of sorts.
“Hello Elise,”[/blue] Ermac greets in his digital voice. “We’ve been expecting you.”
The strange form of greeting makes you stop in your tracks. “What do you mean ‘we?’” You return, and, at that, the computer where the voice is coming from glows brighter than the rest.
