The journey to Franktown didn't take long, and you could hear the unmistakable thump of electric punk music and see the vibrant lights as you drew nearer.
"Are you all right? We heard a gunshot," Juan called out, joined by several other young men as the truck rolled into town.
"It's all Daniel's fault." Fatima shrugged, before smirking. "You see, this guy killed a Swarmer Queen, right out there, in a single shot to the head."
You held up the Swarmer Queen's skull, that showed holes on the sides where the bullet entered and left its body. "It's true."
"Wow, a Swarmer Queen?" one of the Franktown locals exclaimed. "Hey guys, this big guy killed a Swarmer Queen for us on the way here, check out the sick skull!"
The crowd around the truck erupted in excitement
"Whoa! Look at that!"
"He's huge!"
"Hey, you're all from Esperanza, right?"
"SLAYER GUY, SLAYER GUY!"
"I hope you have fun here today with us!"
"A Swarmer Queen? That's insane!"
"Here, grab a drink!"
"SLAYER GUY, SLAYER GUY!"
"Whoa, that girl is fiiine"
"Hey, hey! What's your name slayer guy?"
The sudden attention was overwhelming, a new experience for you. Maria discreetly gestured to you and then somehow leaped and disappeared into the crowd. Teresa soon arrived to open the back, allowing the two of you to disembark.
"Yep, just helping out, great to be here." you smile to the crowd, trying to hide your nervousness as you show the skull to some curious people one last time before tucking it away into the truck.
"We absolutely have to visit Esperanza one of these days," a lively girl laughed, casually pointing at you with her thumb. "Isn't Slayer Guy kinda, scary big? Is that OK?" another commented out loud with discomfort. "What are you talking about, that's the best part!" another countered.
"Are you okay, Teresa?" Juan inquired, concern etched across his face. "Gah, I should've gone back to pick you up."
"No, I'm fine." she responded dismissively. "Daniel is great with monsters."
Juan remained resolute. "Next time, I'm coming with you. This can't happen again. It's for your safety."
"Right" Teresa mumbled in reluctant agreement.
Cutting the tension, Fatima chimed in, "So, what's the plan? I see Maria has gone on her solo adventures again." she chuckled mischievously.
Teresa's uncertainty showed on her face as she glanced toward you. "I'm not sure, to be honest."
"We could hang out with the guys I know from here, they're great" Juan suggested, and gestured to a nearby table where several older teens and young adults were reveling, sipping drinks and puffing cigarettes as they played cards.
