there's a pattern in the reports that's not quite right. all the reports describe attacks at nighttime even though they're timed to the local daytime some of the time. no events in fact have been recorded lately from them at all, in the daytime truly, as all footage and reports describe and show it being nighttime. it's as if daytime hasn't existed on this world for months now, even though this is a fairly normal green, habitable world on record. that's pretty weird.

as for the attacks, unless the colony crews and the countless people that have been through here missed something, there appears to be an apex predator loose on the world, that wasn't there before somehow. was it imported or is it native? who knows. the reports describe intense violence, immense strength and force, and no compulsion against hunting humans or being scared by their little toys. very few survivors and it seems at least content with merely eating us for meat instead of doing anything crazy. there might be a few apex predators actually, it's kind of hard to separate scavengers from predators when the bodies are already half-eaten by the time they're found
no footage yet, though, or at least no footage worth watching. again, that nighttime problem, everyone's camera can't see shit

at the quartermasters office, barring other information you get a shrug and a big game hunting shotgun that looks like it could hunt an elephant. very limited ammo, big fucking bullets as well. technically all you have to do is figure out the situation, maybe bag and tag a couple animals for the office, and you're fine. you've still got the pistol from last mission so you're fine if a smaller beasty tries to eat you
you sleep fine and wake up refreshed.
