You hung up, braced yourself against the wall and took a long, relaxing breath.
“Pull yourself together, Parker.” you muttered to yourself, before firing a webline at a nearby building and swinging back in Matt’s direction.
—-----
When you reunited with Matt and Cindy, both gave you a sparing glance, but kept their main focus on the vampire club.
“Everything alright?” Matt asked.
“Yeah. Everything’s fine.” you replied, a little too fast. Matt simply nodded and gestured towards Cindy.
“She’s ready to move.” he said, and Cindy nodded for confirmation.
You walked over, scooped her up, made sure that she had a tight grip on you, and leapt from the roof. Matt followed close behind, using some sort of grappling hook built into his batons. Maybe you should get Cindy something like that. Having her cling to you all the time could become problematic in the future.
—---
After landing in front of the club, you walked down a few flights of stone steps and found yourself face to face with a large man with bloodshot eyes, pale skin, and slightly pointed ears. He had a noticeable lack of hair, and was wearing a tailored suit that looked reasonably expensive. From the way he was standing, you had a feeling that he had no intention of letting you inside.
Nevertheless, you followed Cindy as she approached him without fear. The large man looked down and grunted at her. “Password.”
Cindy scribbled something in her notepad and showed it to the man, who only smirked. “What’s the matter? Bat got your tongue?” he said in a European accent that you didn’t quite recognize.
Cindy let out a frustrated huff, but you were the one to reply.
“She’s mute, asshole.” you said, stepping up beside her.
The bouncer rolled his massive shoulders and flexed his fingers a few times before looking at you. His gaze could only be described as predatory, and you had the distinct impression that violence was an inevitability. But before either of you could act, the man froze and his eyes glazed over for a moment. His ears twitched a few times, and he immediately straightened, abandoning his aggressive posture from before.
“So sorry for the inconvenience.” he growled between two sets of tightly clenched, razor sharp teeth. “The boss would like to see you inside.” he said, stepping aside to open the heavy, iron door. “Right this way.”
You cast a wary glance at Matt and Cindy, before entering first, with Cindy in the middle and Matt in the back. This seemed like the safest formation for the young girl.
