>>6126449Though a bit perturbed, you still nod, “I suppose,” In truth, you aren’t exactly sure what you’re here for. Once you arrived at the cathedral, an inquisitor with a cockle hat escorted you right to this room before leaving as Marie went deeper towards the dungeon with Inquisitor Corvus and the prisoners, “I take it something you have found something relevant that involves me in some way?” Your mind shoots back to the letter at the start of all of this, who wrote it, for what purpose, and why they have such a grudge against you still eludes your senses.
The Lord Inquisitor drums his fingers on the table as he smiles, “Not quite, Your Highness, twas just an innocent question! Forsooth, I’ve actually brought you here as more of a check-up. Why, it’s practically a disgrace that all this time in the Inquisition, we’ve yet to even chat face-to-face!” Somewhere, the man gets a great deal of energy as he excitedly rambles, “Now it’s true, you’ve been seeing a great deal of success in your short time here, and that is to be expected. Someone of your prestige is doubtless to have an Old Soul. To achieve heights that in ways that their lessers cannot hope to be in reach in so more time.”
Unconsciously, you sit up a bit straighter as the highborn man heaps praises upon you, though a more rational part of your mind demands an explanation for his erratic behavior, “So is this a debriefing or a check on my progress? Though you seemingly already understand the latter.”
His eyes move around, shaking about as he makes a so-so gesture with his hand, “Hmm, a bit of both, no? I mean, it sure is wondrous everything you’ve been able to achieve in less than a season’s worth of time, but then there’s the fact I’ve dealt with an entire crusade worth of Royal Knight in the past few days! That’s strange too, no?”
You wilt a bit as your cheeks grow a bit hotter, “That situation is under control, Lord Inquisitor. I’m certain my father will be much more cordial when this situation has passed, and the rebellion is squashed,” You state in a clipped manner, “He is simply overreacting to the actual danger I am in.”
“Hm, you’re right, more or less,” Surprisingly, he agrees with you, “Those like us, cut from the cloth of an older soul, are always made of sterner stuff. And with the little Hero, we put you with as a mentor, the chances of you actually dying were next to nil. Still, that’s another reason I brought you here, Miss Lorina,” A faux pas; even if he’s your superior in this organization, your rightful title is still Your Highness as long as you’re not disinherited, “You have another important mission you must partake.”
“As expected, what is required of me?”
Then the Inquisitor brings back that all-familiar smile, “For the next week or so until dear Asher returns, you are not to take a single step outside this cathedral. It would be oh so tragic if you were to die without a way to bring you back in a timely manner.”
