Callisto rubbed her nose and closed her remaining eye. “Yeah, I heard, Deep. We’ll have to arrange a gift basket later.”
“No need to act shy. I know how excited you must be to have a new friend.” the fish woman said teasingly.
Callisto ignored her and stared pointedly at you. “We appreciate the warning, but I don’t think this Chameleon guy is as big a threat to us as you might think. These tunnels are a winding maze to anyone that doesn’t know their way around. Plus, I can smell anyone that enters without my permission. The guy might be able to change his looks, but it's pretty damn hard to cover up your own scent.”
You paused to consider that information for a moment, and then nodded to yourself. She was right. If the Chameleon wanted to come down here to cause trouble for the Morlocks, it would require him to put in an insane amount of work. And even then, with Callisto’s senses being what they are, the whole thing would be a rather aggressive waste of time.
As soon as he entered, the Morlocks would be able to come up with several plans before he got anywhere near them. Callisto could either ambush him, lead him astray, or call you for help.
“I suppose that’s fair.” you said. “But still, be careful of anyone that comes down here. Even me.”
Callisto crossed her arms. “I’m always careful. You should worry about your own people. They’re not nearly as well protected.”
“I’ve got it covered. I’ll let you know if there are any new developments.”
She nodded. “Don’t be a stranger. If you can’t handle something on your own, we’ve got your back.”
The Deep One tried, and failed to cover a shit-eating grin with one hand. “Keep going, pretty thing. You’re doing a good job of melting that cold, cold heart of hers.”
Callisto’s eye narrowed, but she didn’t give her friend the satisfaction of glancing at her.
“Thanks, Callisto. I’ll keep that in mind. But for the time being, do you think that I could get a look at those fairy flowers?”

Once the conversation stopped being interesting, the Deep One said her goodbyes and skulked off into a deeper part of the sewers. You then made a few quick signs towards Cindy to explain where you were going, and allowed yourself to be led into the greenhouse. The closer that you got, the stronger the scent of garlic and dogwood became. But amidst those powerful smells, you caught a whiff of something that could only be described as sickeningly sweet.
Callisto led you to a large tent made of slightly transparent material. She pushed aside a flap, and you were momentarily blinded by the brilliant glow of a field of golden flowers. It was a truly breathtaking sight. The light from the solar lamps seemed to almost bounce off of the petals like reflective aluminum. You were so distracted that you almost missed Ethel and Nature Girl approaching you.
