“You’re not in any position to be asking questions here, boy.” Alena says sharply. If she was as surprised as you were by the sudden revelation of the group, she sure didn’t show it. “What’s this I hear about another rebellion? After Douglas and his men backed down, I’d assumed you’d all put aside any notions of opposing the Count.”
“Things were supposed to get better, that’s what the old man from the castle had promised!” Eustass exclaims. “But they never did. More and more we were forced to work in that mine. And when people eventually started getting sick or injured, the soldiers came and dragged more of us in there. That Count’s a dirty damn liar, and this time we’re gonna finish him for good!”
“Is that so? You’re quite a bit away from the castle. What are you doing all the way out here?” Alena asks. It seemed she was comfortable in taking over the discussion.
“We were recruiting.” Eustass says. “Trying to draw up more support to march on the castle. We thought we might find some sympathetic people here…but Ostia is too far removed from the mines of Rusalka. These people have had it easy. They never had to watch their loved ones dragged off in chains to work in the dark.” Eustass spits. “So, they called the garrison on us. We were finished for sure if you hadn’t shown up. Miss Alena, are you going to help us fight against the Count? Is that why you’re back with all these soldiers?” Eustass turns towards you. “Is this your lieutenant?”
Alena looks at you, expectedly. You could reveal your identity to Eustass and the rebels here. You’d had a cordial relationship with Douglas and had even gotten him to back down from taking his rebellion any further. The rebels back then knew you as the one that destroyed the Demonic Beast that had been plaguing their mine. Still, it wouldn’t surprise you if there was an element of the rebels who blamed you for Douglas’ execution.
