====================
“Enough chit-chat!” the impatient spearman shouts, startling the two of you. “Let’s get going, rabbit!”
“I-I gotta go, champ...” Somehow, even with your eyes closed, you know Ruby is smiling. “It was nice talking to ya. You’re, uhh… you’re a pretty alright gnoll, y’know that?”
“Thanks.” There’s no time for more conversation, but you've still got to heal this poor servant. Not to show off like you planned before, but because she's in genuine need of aid, and that's all that matters. “Before you go, lemme see if I can do something about your wounds.”
“Huh…?”
“Don’t move.” You raise your hands, but the rabbette immediately steps away from your reach, startled by your sudden movements. With a smile, you gently motion her to come closer. “You'll feel better immediately. I give you my word.”
A few seconds pass by, and Ruby complies with your request and approaches you. "O-okay..." It must not be easy to place trust on a predator like you, yet she's doing it anyway. Good job, courageous little one...
Slowly and carefully, you lay your palms on her face, which cover almost the entirety of her small head. She flinches at the very moment your fingers graze her fur, but remains perfectly still afterwards. For the first time ever, you are touching a rabbette not with the intent to kill, but to heal its injuries... and you're not going to lie: this is kind of weird. Not in a bad way, but it's an interaction you'd NEVER have imagined would take place in your life.
In the end, you are more than a hungry wolf that follows its instincts without thought. Maybe your predator nature is not set in stone… maybe these impulses CAN go away if you continue to say ‘no’ to them whenever they assault you. You only hope you are strong enough to keep at it.
And so, with your hands laid on Ruby, you start focusing mana in them, preparing to send a batch of curative energy into her injured body. “It… it feels hot…” she murmurs under her breath.
It’s strange, but casting this spell is incredibly easy to you. It’s like you’ve done it in the past, but don’t recall when...
As you heal Ruby, you experience a crawling sensation in the back of your head, as if a deeply buried memory was struggling to resurface…
