The access to the sewers was at one of the residential districts where the peasants lived. The stench was that Lucian, once a peasant, could hardly fathom the origin of. Yet these people who lived about the drain had made their livelihoods around it.
“Why would anyone live here?” The Noble said as he walked next to Lucian waving his hand, “There is an outlet here. Do they not fear the plagues of Nurgle which come from such muck!”
“They do, but they wished for a home more.” Lucian said as they turned another street to finally see the open pipe, “The people live here because their betters will not remove them. If a plague affects the peasants it will not matter to the Nobles. For the peasants they get a place to stay with little rent to work off.”
“Your people really that desperate?” The Noble said as they closed in on the open drain.
Lucian thought to himself for a moment, trying to realize the words that would address his thoughts on his fellows. It took a moment but he slowly came to a conclusion, “These peasants are… pathetic.”
The Noble shook his head as he heard those words, “I guess those are some words to use. Can’t say they are not said anywhere else.”
Finally they arrived at the pipe, which was more of a tunnel from what they were looking at. Dirt walls that were supported by wooden bracers which were erected across the top of the structure. There was some wonder within Lucian how the place did not collapse from the weight above, then he realized that any issues might have simply been patched up by hand through the residents.
After all issues caused by the sewer would bring the attention of the Nobles, and no one wanted that.
“Looks too small for us to travel side by side.” Adok said as he looked at it, “Well, whats our pecking order going to be?”
