>>5675226“Is he…looking to talk?” Ingrid asks, genuine confusion in her voice. “After everything I’ve heard about the Sky Shadow…this is quite the surprise.”
>“Let’s indulge him.” You say. “Our goal is to hold them off while Dimitri tries to finish off the Empress. The more time we can buy without crossing blades, the better.” A perfect sounding excuse, you think. Regardless, Ingrid does not offer any protest, and simply defers to you. “Blackwings, halt!” Your mercenaries cease their advance, forming a line opposite that of the Hellwings. The two groups simply stare off against each other. You and Ingrid follow Rex’s move and advance forward slowly.Rex stares at you intently as you draw near. He points directly towards you, and you feel that horrid knot again. “That’s close enough. Where is your commander? Where is Blair? Before this battle begins, I would speak with her.”
>You blink. “W-what? It’s me, Rex. I’m Blair.”Rex simply stares at you. He leans forward on his wyvern, as if to get a closer look. “Impossible. The Blair that I knew was much shorter. Not nearly as developed as you, either. She was also a crybaby. She’d never be at the front of an army like this.” He waves you off. “Go get me Blair, or I’ll strike you down, lying wench.”
>“Is this your idea of a joke, Rex?” You seethe.“Gahahahaha!” The Wyvern Lord erupts into a loud, raucous laughter. The Hellwings behind him, despite their distance, also begin laughing and hollering. Despite very likely not hearing the conversation at all, they’re all too keen to join in with their commander. Rex wipes an invisible tear from his eye. “You make it too easy, Blair. Despite all the achievements and battles you’ve fought in, you’re still just a little girl at heart, aren’t you?”
>“What is the meaning of this, Rex?”Rex feigns ignorance. “Am I not allowed to say hello to my sweet little sister? You’ve been gone from us for five years now, and I daresay I’ve even missed you somewhat. That old geezer back home still finds himself thinking about you. He was heartbroken when he discovered you’d deserted and fled Garreg Mach. But he was positively torn to shreds when he’d found out just why you’d done it. He was hopeful you’d run off to some corner of Fodlan, find a husband, sire a few children, and keep a low profile. But instead, you’ve been running around at the head of a band of sellswords, getting into all sorts of trouble.”
>“If I have brought shame upon the Count for turning against the Empire, you should know that I’ve always felt-““The Empire?” Rex snorts. “Who cares about that. Fighting against a decrepit puppet nation is one matter. Swearing yourself to be an enemy of Shambhala is another. One that finds you at the helm of a very short life.”
