The word "ki" grabs your attention. You think you've heard of that before, something that those Carpen scientists from a long time ago kept babbling about in their scientific seminars and public theory speeches. It was the only interesting thing about anything they ever talked about, but the details are hazy. Ki was that glowing stuff that charged up in those goofy looking arm cannons scientists boast about all the time, right? Your brow furrows, so you decide to ask Kelper what he means by "ki". Whose small black eyes widen and mouth open in an "O" in a gasp, you stifling a snicker as he gets surprised again for the third or fourth time today. You can hardly take these little guys seriously when they make faces like that, its adorable!
"You don't know what ki is?" He asks incredulously, which does beg the question of why he knows something that only those braniacs rave about, but you let him continue. "So much power and yet..." He trails off as he turns to look at something unknown. He clears his throat and regains his composure, this time talking in a more professional and dignified tone. "Kabra, if you don't mind, I want to tell you about the basics of ki".
You focus to pay attention to what he's about to say, when he raises his arms to his chest, his little 3-digit hands clasping at the air between them when a small ball of blue light forms between them to your astonishment. He can make that stuff with his hands?! How is he doing something with his bare hands that took the "smartest people of their time" YEARS with fancy tools and science-y nonsense? Your respect of this guy went up a LOT.
"This is Ki." He explains. "It is the life energy concentrated in all living things, manifesting itself when one draws out their own energy. It takes the balance of one's body and spirit to harness it properly, and potentially years to master." Kelper moves his hands apart, but the ball of light still stays in place, not wavering in the slightest. "It can be used to provide light and warmth, or even used to heal the injured and the sick. However," He says seriously, "It can also be used as a deadly weapon in the hands that wield it." He flicks his wrist, and the ball of light rushes up into the sky before exploding in a bright light, you and the other villagers captivated by the sight. You recall how one of those Carpen Lab beta testers put on those same arm cannon things and shot at a painted tree to demonstrate its effectiveness, the energy cannon missing its target and blowing up a nearby playground instead. It was a massive scandal and the talk of the globe for weeks. You don't know how they got away with it, or how a guy could miss a shot like that with 2 pairs of eyes.
