If neither can be found, remove the cruciform from Millicent and rejoin Emilia. You ease down along the hill and through the flowers to where the monster huntress lies, a cruciform sprouting up from her chest and nailing her into the dirt. She is pale, coat stuck with blood and dirt, hands limp at her sides. You don’t suppose she’s long for this world. A cross of wrought iron through the guts would kill anyone, but she’ll arise back at the shrine nonetheless. And this time she need not pay a toll of memory.
You glance through the flowers, and–.. there! You leap down into the bloom and wrap your hands around it, whereupon it curls up along your arm. The mimic is cool to the touch, a nacreous gunk that catches the flowers’ light from below and the light of the stars above. You stand with a huff–though, this isn’t the full mimic, just a small part of a small part. You suppose some parts are still scattered about after she was hacked in two.
But you’re unsure if you can take the time to exhaustively put the mimic back together in full. You hear another clang of swords along the hilltop behind you, more loud than the last. As your eyes wander back, a low moan draws your attention forward.
“Ohh..” Millicent’s face is wet with tears, her eyes low. “I failed again.. again..”
You’d take the time to remove the cruciform, but you ought to focus your attention on the more pressing matters–another deafening clang crosses your ears, and you’ve no doubt that any more time spent here will end poorly for your companion up top.
