You look back up from the letter, where a dozen full-grown men are straining with heavy ropes to steer the Wasteland Mustang into a bigger corral. They haven’t been able to make him budge and inch, and in fact several are already being dragged off senseless by their compatriots. In fact it is looking entirely possible that the beast is about to shake the remainder off even and begin a galloping rampage through the lower streets of the City while more and more of men try to pick up the slack ropes and strain against the stallion’s ferocity.
“You know, L’Orso Tempesta, this horse of yours he killed a man. When we were loading him onto the ship.” Captain Verdicci leans over, adding his number to the audience watching the ongoing mayhem. “Not a worry, not one of mine. A local stablehand, when we were loading him onto the ship. Ah pavona I’m not even counting all the broken bones of my crew. Ah, I will never transport this cargo again. Halfway across and I was hoping pirates would come take him off me.”
You look aghast at the Langlish Free Captain, first at the news at your gift horse having killed someone and then at the man’s attempt to reassure you because it wasn’t one of his crew. Your eyes turn back to the erupting chaos in the dockside coral, already with more broken bones added to the tally, and then back to Jess’ letter.
The last two words are underlined.
Good luck.
