>>6159359>“Theories? What kind?”“It depends who you ask. Most people believe the Sorcerer King resides in Tartarus. Others believe that Tartarus is where he banished the old Morfisian deities to, such as how the Djinn was interred within the orb. Some even believe that if the mausoleum is ever opened, that it would invite doom to all Morfis. As for myself and the Royal College…” Alvin trails off. “We believe Tartarus holds something else entirely. We believe it was a source of creation for the Sorcerer King. That it was where he developed new magic and technologies that shaped our very way of life. Our idea is that Tartarus was not built to be a mausoleum, but was instead a seat of power, where the Sorcerer King would rule over Morfis, bringing forth prosperity and abundance. Where he would bring life to the barren desert.”
>“What makes you so sure you’re right and everyone else is wrong?”“The predecessors of the Four Royal Sages were Xenophanes’ companions. They left behind certain pieces of evidence that support our idea, though as I said, nothing is actually proven just yet. We at the highest level of the College do know one thing though. Tartarus will not just open on its own. It requires prodding from the outside. We’ve known about the existence of the key for centuries. However, we’d assumed it vanished following the war.”
>“You found this key in Fodlan?”“Not quite.” Alvin shakes his head. “The original key is thought lost. But, the Royal Sages possess the power to make a new, identical key. The only problem was the material. Tartarus will not respond to just any replica. The new key must be made of the exact same material as the old. A material that was long thought to be a myth, for no such iron could be found in this land.”
Alvin gets up shakily. He walks over to a chest in the corner of the room. Muttering incantations, you watch as several layers of magical locks fade away, one by one, until he finally opens the lid of the box. He retrieves what looks at first to be a black rock. Upon further inspection, you find that it is a chunk of iron. But it is devoid of color. The iron is completely black. The surface is polished, and as you peer at it closely, you can see that it gives off a foggy reflection.
“After untold eons of searching.” Alvin says, showing you the ore. “The material we needed was found in a remote part of Fodlan, in a county known as Rusalka. This ‘Agarthium’ will be what allows us to open Tartarus.”
